Military and Diplomatic Highlights: 

·       The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense reported the following Russian losses:

o   1,074,320 Soldiers (Killed or Wounded)

o   11,124 Tanks

o   23,160 Armored vehicles

o   31,835 Artillery pieces

o   53,787 Drones

o   422 Aircraft

o   340 Helicopters

o   3,598 Cruise missiles

o   28 Ships

·       The International Atomic Energy Agency on August 13th reported smoke coming from the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant administration building. There were also reports of fire coming from the plant’s cooling towers.

·       On August 14th, Germany announced that it will fund a $500 million package of military equipment and munitions for Ukraine. This package will be sourced from the United States of America.  

·       On August 19th a Russian drone exploded in Osinie, Poland:

o   The Polish government is considering this a deliberate provocation and part of a hybrid warfare campaign against Poland.

o   The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs delivered a note of protest to the Russian government.

·       The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense reported on August 21st that Russia launched an air strike involving 574 drones and 39 missiles against civilian targets. Ukrainian forces were able to shot down 546 drones and 31 missiles.

 

War and Atrocity Crimes Investigations Highlights: 

·       The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported that in 2025 that there have been 100 incidents of injured humanitarian workers, damaged humanitarian assets, or disrupted relief operations.

·       The UN Health Cluster as of July 31st reported that there has been a total of 2,540 attacks on healthcare since February 2022.

·       On August 19th, the Ukrainian State Emergency Services reported that rescuers extinguishing a fire in Nikopol came under attack by Russian forces. No personnel were injured but one vehicle was damaged.

·       The UN Special Rapporteur on Torture on August 21st sent a dossier of sexual torture allegations to the Russian Federation involving the cases of 10 Ukrainian civilians abused in occupied regions of Ukraine, including Kherson, Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia:

o   These cases involve the experiences of four women and six men.

o   The Russian Federation has engaged in deliberate and systematic policy of torture in Ukraine involves sexualized torture and other cruelty.

o   These assaults included rapes, threats of rape, and other depraved conduct.

o   In all of the documented cases, repeated electric shocks were administered, including to the genitals. These civilians were beaten, kicked, blindfolded and, in some instances, drownings were simulated and mock executions carried out.

 

Humanitarian Impact and Response and Recovery Highlights:

·       A total of 12.7 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance and 4.8 million people are prioritized for assistance.

·       OCHA reported on August 22nd that a humanitarian convoy delivered aid to the Kherson region. This aid included charging stations, water, hygiene items, medicines, solar lamps, thermoses and other supplies. 

·       Healthcare and Public Health Update:

o   As of August 8th, the World Health Organization (WHO) needs assessment reported the following:

ü  82% households faced challenges obtaining medicines.

ü  72% respondents experienced anxiety, depression, or severe stress in the past year.

ü  35% of respondents delayed necessary medical care

o   WHO reported that as of August 19th they have supported frontline communities through the following efforts:

ü  15 mobile health teams have provided 7,000 consultations.

ü  15 modular health facilities have served 94,000 people.

ü  A total of 1,600 tons of medical supplies have been delivered to 650 health facilities.

·       As of August 21st, the number of evacuees from the Donetsk region has grown and the transit center in Pavlohrad has limited resources. In response a new center has been opened in Lozova.

·       On August 22nd, the Ukrainian Red Cross Society (URCS) launched a cash assistance program at the Lozova transit center in the Kharkiv region. Over 500 people are expected to benefit from this program by mid-September.

·       State Emergency Services on August 22nd received buses for regional units and generators from the Republic of Korea.

 

Russian Dis-information Campaign Highlights:

·       On August 3rd, the EU East Stratcom Task Force Disinformation Review exposed additional Russian disinformation activities to include: 

o   De-humanizing Ukraine with fabrications.

o   Projecting blame to claim Russian victimhood.

 

Cultural Heritage Protection Highlights:

The UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on August 6th has verified damage to 508 cultural heritage sites, this includes:

·       151 Religious sites

·       268 Buildings of historical and/or artistic interest

·       34 Museums

·       33 Monuments

·       18 Libraries

·       1 Archive

·       3 Archaeological sites.
